If you've ever tried to register a domain name and found it was already taken — or for sale at a price that made you wince — this book is for you.
It's written for startup founders, professionals, artists, and anyone with a website who wants a great domain name. You don't need any technical knowledge or prior experience with domain names.
This book is not about domain name investing. You won't find strategies for buying domains in bulk or tips on how to sell domains for profit. If you're a domain investor you might still pick up a thing or two, but it's not aimed at you.
It also doesn't cover the technical side — DNS, nameservers, or how domain names work under the hood. I touch on a few technical details where they're relevant to acquiring a domain, but that's it.
The sweet spot is anywhere from a few dollars (for an available registration) up to around $100,000. If you're looking at ultra-premium domains that cost hundreds of thousands or millions, you're probably better off working with a professional broker.
The book provides detailed guidance on how to research, approach, and negotiate for a specific domain — including an in-depth case study where I walk through every step of acquiring a domain I had my eye on.
That said, I can't guarantee you'll get any particular domain. Ultimately, it's up to the current owner whether they want to sell and at what price. What I can do is give you the best possible chance, and plenty of ideas for great alternatives if it doesn't work out.
You'll learn how to find available domain names through creative brainstorming techniques, how to research who owns a domain and what it might be worth, and how to negotiate a purchase — all without overpaying. The book is full of real examples and practical advice you can apply right away.
