Brainstorming Domain Name Ideas

Brainstorming Descriptive Names

The trick to finding a good descriptive name is to go beyond the obvious. Start by listing every keyword you can think of that’s related to your product or industry. Then keep going.

Say you’re building a social network for photographers. You’d start with the obvious: photo, camera, snap. But don’t stop there. Dig into the details — camera parts, photography techniques, film processing stages, lighting terms. Your list might grow to include words like aperture, viewfinder, darkroom, ISO, focus, tripod, glass.

These aren’t hypothetical, by the way. glass.photo is an actual social network for photographers. A word that seems too niche or technical might turn out to be the perfect domain name.
